Creatures

Page history last edited by PBworks 17 years, 4 months ago

Player Advice: Several of these creatures are extremely tough, so tough that it is unlikely that a single character could ever actually hurt them. However, teams of characters using the Combined Attack and Aid Another tactics can hurt such creatures. Good teamwork or extremely clever use of the environment is strongly encouraged.

Extended Reach: An acklay's claws are very long, allowing it to reach targets further away than normal for its size. All claw attacks have reach as if the acklay was one size category larger.

One of the most fearsome predators on their native planet, Acklays have a head full of sharp teeth and the body of a clawed crustacean. A distinctive neckfrill protects its vulnerable neck. Although their chitinous armor is relatively thin, Acklays use the long reach of their two claws to both keep threats at bay and crush them into the ground. Disabled prey are picked up and carried off to be consumed at leisure.

Traits Constrict, Fearlessness, Scent, Skill bonus (+6 Notice, +6 Search)

Constrict: When grappling, a gundark uses it's four arms to crush it's foe. It automatically deals +7 damage after making a successful grapple check.

Fearlessness: Male gundarks are renowned for their fearlessness in combat. They receive a +4 on all checks and saves against fear effects and always get a save against such effects.

Found all over the galaxy, gundarks are one of the most dangerous predators on any planet. Strong, tough, fast and deadly, gundarks will often grab prey and opponents with one set of arms and crush them to death with the other set. Though not truly sentient nor equipped with any but the most basic of tools, gundarks have managed to emigrate throughout the galaxy due to their reputations as gladiators. Enslaved and transported, escaped gundarks have begun many of the gundark colonies to be found; many other colonies are the result of relocation efforts to protect gundarks from enslavement and exploitation by sentient races.

Living in matriarchal tribes, gundarks often use simple tools and clubs to aid their survival. They favor ambushes when hunting, though they can usually confront their foes with little danger. Male gundarks are renowned for their unconcern with odds or danger, as well as for their ferocity in close quarters.

Feats Cleave, Great Cleave, Night Vision (B), Rage (x4), Snatch, Track, Trailblazer

Skills Intimidate 6 (+8), Notice 8 (+9), Survival 10 (+11)

Swallow Whole: A creature that begins the turn inside a krayt dragon's mouth can be grappled and swallowed. Once in the gullet it takes bludgeoning damage (+15) and acid damage (+6) each round. It may escape by either grappling its way back to the mouth and then out or by cutting itself free. Cutting free requires inflicting a wounded condition upon the gizzard (Toughness +9), though no attack roll is required. See the True20 Bestiary for full details.

Canyon krayt dragons are the smallest subspecies of krayt dragon, though this specimen is one of the largest of that type. This four legged predator is feared and respected by all peoples native to Tatooine and most who immigrate. Those few who encounter it and survive return with tales that reinforce its well-deserved reputation. The sandpeople have many rituals based upon their great respect and veneration of the spirit of the krayt dragon.

A larger type of dragon, the greater krayt, exists. It is easily recognized by its ten legs and a length in excess of 100 meters. Greater krayts are exceptionally rare and the few who do exist spend most of their time 'swimming' through the Dune Sea, invisible to bystanders.

All krayt dragons have a gizzard that uses stones to aid in digestion. Over time these stones are worn smooth and eventually ejected by the dragon; such stones are known as krayt dragon pearls or krayt pearls. Recently ejected pearls quickly lose the smoothness, luster and beauty that makes them so highly valued; as such, the best pearls come from the gizzards of recently slain krayt dragons. Krayt pearls are extremely valuable commodities and are used as jewelry, lightsaber focusing crystals or trophies for would-be hunters.

Mynock

Small Animal 1 (aerial, lithivor, vacuum)

Init +3, Senses Night Vision; Notice -2

Language None

Defense 12, parry --, flat-footed 11

Toughness -1 (-1 size, +0 Con)

Fortitude +2, Reflex +3, Will -2

Special Qualities Immunity to paralysis, poison, radiation, sleep effects, stunning

Base Combat +0, Grapple -4

Attack Options Energy Shaping

Abilities Str +0, Dex +1, Con +0, Int -5, Wis -2, Cha -3

Feats Energy Shaping, Night Vision (B)

Skills Stealth 4 (+9)

Energy Shaping: Mynocks treat their total level as their adept level for the purposes of this power. They may only use the Drain Power option, as this is their primary means of gathering 'food'.

Mynocks are parasitic, silicon-based creatures that roam the vacuum of space in large swarms, feeding upon all available power sources including space craft. Other creatures feed upon them, particularly the few species that live in the vacuum of space, though mynocks are prominent in the cuisine of several sentient species and are quite safe to eat if properly prepared.

Rancor

Huge Animal 10 (predator)

Init +0, Senses Darkvision 20 m, Night Vision, Notice +3

Languages Galactic Basic

Defense 18, parry 24, flat-footed 16

Toughness +16 (+6 Con, +4 size, +6 Natural Armor)

Fortitude +13, Reflex +9, Will +1

Special Qualities Fast Healing (5 rounds)

Speed 20 m

Attack +6 claws or bite, Damage +12 claws or +14 bite

Space 6 m, Reach 4 m

Base Combat +8, Grapple +24

Attack Options Double Strike, Improved Grab, Rage

Special Attacks Frightful Presence (Difficulty 13)

Abilities Str +8, Dex +0, Con +6, Int -3, Wis -2, Cha +0

Feats Double Strike, Improved Grab, Night Vision (B), Rage, Track

Skills Climb 5 (+13), Intimidate 1 (+1), Notice 5 (+3), Survival 2 (+0)

Fast Healing: A rancor makes a recovery check from damage every thirty seconds (5 rounds).

Though there are larger and more vicious creatures in the galaxy, the rancor holds a special place in the nightmares of countless sentient creatures. Violent, angry and single-minded, rancors are capable of almost unbelievable carnage. Rancors, and similar beasts, are native to a multitude of untamed worlds. Sometimes caught and shipped out as exotic 'pets', only the wealthiest of the wealthy can afford to acquire, house and feed a rancor.

Most rancors can understand but not speak Galactic Basic, or another common language in their environment, though they don't usually care what is being said.
